New Orleans, LA, June 25, 2011 – The New Orleans Video Access Center (NOVAC) is celebrating its 39th birthday with Watch My Movie!, an evening discussion designed to educate local independent filmmakers on the changing model of Marketing and Distribution. Presented at the Contemporary Arts Center at 900 Camp Street on July 14th from 7pm – 10pm, Watch My Movie! will feature a panel of experts from producers and distributors to film festival directors and Ivy League faculty. To follow, NOVAC will commemorate 39 years of connecting filmmakers to the community with a reception and raffle.
“In this fluctuating market, independent filmmakers are looking toward alternatives to the larger studios for marketing and theatrical distribution,” says NOVAC Filmmaker Program Coordinator, Ashley Charbonnet. At Watch My Movie! panelists will discuss a variety of approaches to exhibiting and monetizing content including: theatrical, educational, online and Video On Demand. Panelists will also discuss film festival markets, packaging a product, and sustainable Do-It-Yourself models.
Experts include: Ira Deutchman (Emerging Pictures, Fine Line Features, Columbia University), Andre Mer (SnagFilms), Todd Sklar (Range Life Entertainment, IFP Producers Lab, Exit Through the Gift Shop), Janine Saunders (Workbook Project), Gianna Chachere (Hamptons International Film Festival, Patois Film Festival), Benjamin Reece (Kinio), and the discussion will be moderated by Luisa Dantas (Land of Opportunity, Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price).
“With a commitment to cultivating a sustainable local film community, events like Watch My Movie! truly embody NOVAC’s mission,” says Charbonnet. “We hope that this event will provide filmmakers with a solid understanding of how they can market and distribute their films so that they ultimately reach audiences, whether through theatre screens, televisions, web videos or any other outlet for content that may coming down the pike.”
The event is open to the public at an optional $10 donation rate. Light refreshments will be served at the reception and raffle following Watch My Movie! and will include prizes from NOVAC, New Orleans Film Society, HBO Series Tremé, Panavision, local restaurants, the National WWII Museum and more.
