Applause for Flood Streets and NOVAC Members Screening

Members of NOVAC and the New Orleans filmmaking community gathered at Vintage Uptown for the Sneak Peek of the much awaited Flood Streets, a feature film by local filmmakers Joseph Meissner and Helen Krieger.  Based Mrs. Krieger’s collection of short stories, The Land of What Now, Flood Streets sheds a light on the bohemian community of the Bywater neighborhood and surrounding areas after Hurricane Katrina.  After the screening the filmmakers fielded questions during a lively Q&A session where they discussed their process and recent acceptance into WorldFest Houston where Flood Streets will make its international premiere.

While networking with community filmmakers and NOVAC members before and after the screening, attendees munched on hors d’œuvres and desserts generously provided by Café Reconcile and Pralines by Jean and washed them down with cups of Cajun Iced Tea donated by Old New Orleans Rum.

As a privilege of membership, NOVAC offers invitations to private screenings and networking events like this one. For more information on how you can become a member or renew your membership visit novacvideo.org/membership.  To keep up with Flood Streets and future screenings visit their website at floodstreetsmovie.com and to purchase The Land of What Now visit www.createspace.com/3530131.

NOVAC sends out a much deserved thanks to all of our volunteers and interns without whom this event would not be possible.

  1. Loved the movie. In this movie you have created in my mind’s eye new characters for our city to honor like that wonderful woman on her bicycle posting signs and her stage name is something like disporia. I loved the movie and what it did for showing the war of what it takes to rehab properties in New Orleans as the picture was real of what realtors do walk in to see and then some. I remember a time when a pit bull was working at biting me and a war ravaged hooker type came out of her apartment and yelled at her dog “Psycho get off!” At which point I said to myself what a perfect name for this beast from hell in my day as a realtor. one of many whacked out experiences in my 30 years of walking into places of dark resistance. Best of luck, Dorian Bennett
