Spotlight on Local and International Filmmakers at the Fourth Annual Big Easy International Film Festival

For the fourth year in a row, the Big Easy International Film Festival – which strives to promote independent cinema, the Louisiana filmmaking industry, and the city’s post-Katrina revival – is thrilled to present several films either made by Louisiana filmmakers or focused on regional topics and personalities. Of the 41 short and feature-length films presented at this year’s weeklong festival, 12 underscore local talents, including the features Flag of My Father, a heartfelt drama about a former Army nurse who served in Iraq; Flags, Feathers, and Lies, a lively documentary about the Mardi Gras Indians of New Orleans; and Lunopolis, a Louisiana-based sci-fi thriller that merges The X-Files with The Blair Witch Project.

“Since the start of our festival, we’ve tried to showcase a wide array of comedies, dramas, thrillers, and documentaries from around the world,” says Daniel Martone, co-director of the Big Easy International Film Festival. “But we’re especially proud of the films from or about the state of Louisiana.”Along with the plethora of local content, the festival is proud to present international films from: Canada, England, Hungary, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand.

Big Easy is presented by co-directors Daniel and Laura Martone of the Beverly Hills Shorts Festival. The event takes place December 10-16, 2010, at the Theatres at Canal Place.
