Entertainment copyright experts Bri Whetstone and Max Hass present an info-packed seminar on copyright in filmmaking!
 
They’ve crafted a curriculum curated to filmmakers that covers the essentials of film copyright and contract law in film. This seminar will give insight into navigating these processes, and provide the space to ask your questions directly of two legal experts.

 

Bri Whetstone worked in Business Affairs at LucasArts in San Francisco where she handled copyright applications, drafted contracts, managed international trademarks, and drafted the Lucas Companies’ social media policy. Bri returned to New Orleans levitra without prescreption to attend Tulane Law school and focused on entertainment and intellectual property law. Since graduating magna cum laude from law school, Bri has continued to develop an entertainment and intellectual property law practice that had helped numerous musicians, artists, writers, chefs, and filmmakers.

Max Hass is an entertainment attorney and the founder of Action Potential Entertainment, LLC. He has worked with dozens of musicians in the New Orleans music community, as well as entrepreneurs, record labels, publishing companies, film productions, and visual artists. Max has developed and presented copyright workshops for musicians and visual artists and spoken on intellectual property and contract matters at NOVAC, Propeller, the Where Y’Art Gallery, and at conferences in Baton Rouge and Morgan City. He is currently a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association.

About the instructor:

Billy Theriot‘s sound effects, foley, and dialog editing credits include over 45 feature films, documentaries, and television series. Among those, he has been a foley supervisor, group ADR and sound effects editor on most of Academy Award-winning Steven Soderbergh’s films since 2005 including “Behind The Candelabra” for HBO which won 11 Emmys including best sound mixing. He also has extensive experience in every aspect of post sound from turnover through the final mix and M&E, including all versions for final delivery. 

From 2005 to 2017, he was a foley supervisor, group ADR, and sound effects editor and an ADR mixer at the Swelltone Labs studio, Larry Blake’s post-production sound company in New Orleans. Among the 1000+ sessions he was the ADR mixer/recordist on every episode of the critically-acclaimed HBO series Treme and for the Academy Award best picture nominee Beasts of the Southern Wild, where he was nominated for the Best Sound Editing: Dialogue and ADR in a Feature Film for the 2013 MPSE Golden Reel Awards.

The Big Idea: Taking Film Ideas from Impulse to Action

Do you have a great idea for a narrative or documentary film, but you don’t know what to do next to make it a reality? In Treatment Writing 101, you’ll put ideas into writing by making a treatment, and talk about the next steps one takes towards making these ideas into a reality. Using screenwriting and production strategies to get treatments into shape, instructors Andrea Claire Morningstar and Jasmine Rivera will share a treasure trove of tools for getting the resources you need to move your project forward. Everyone will leave with a treatment for their Big Idea in hand.

Gain hands-on and anecdotal knowledge about one of the most vital and overlooked departments behind the camera: production sound. Mixer Rachel Grissom (Claws, NCIS, Scream Queens) explains the challenges of mic’ing tricky shots and how to problem solve, as well as providing hands-on training with multi-channel mixing on the Sound Devices 633 Field Production Mixer.

 

Rachel Grissom (CLAWS/TNT) is a New Orleans based filmmaker and production sound professional. In addition to being an accomplished sound mixer and recordist with a long resume, Grissom is also a filmmaker in her own right and writes, directs and produces for film, TV and the web.

New Orleans based filmmaker Matt S. Bell started his career as a stills photographer, winning a number of awards and quickly gaining a reputation for his unique cinematic work. After completing a Paris-based residency program in 2011, Matt made the transition into motion picture. He has photographed numerous feature films, commercials, and music videos. His feature projects include Sony’s Santa Jaws, Jared Leto’s A Day in the Life of America, and Lifetime’s The Christmas Contract. Matt is slated to make his feature directorial debut in 2019.
