Post Coastal Documentary Project
POST COASTAL:
Louisiana is facing a crisis of land loss that is historic in its speed and scale. While there is tremendous response to this land loss from government and coastal restoration organizations, the stories and struggles of coastal communities are often several steps removed from the conversations taking place at the state house.
Post Coastal is a documentary series that explores life on the Louisiana coast after the crisis of land loss has been named. How do individuals and communities exist in this period post crisis? And what sort of systems, infrastructure and governing bodies do they encounter in the process of trying to move forward? We follow individuals and communities who are persisting – some resisting change, some fighting to be counted, others trying to adapt. We explore the history of centuries-old infrastructure, competing interests and systems ripe for change, and their impacts on coastal citizens.
The “Post Coastal” series was born out of New Orleans Video Access Center’s commitment to partnering with communities to tell local stories. In addition to the creation of short documentaries, NOVAC will facilitate a series of youth media workshops in coastal communities.
