Schedule & Dates:
- Pilot Pre-Apprenticeship: March 6-May 17, 2025
- Orientation (required): March 6-8, 2025 from 10am to 5pm
- Class Schedule: Wednesday 1-4pm & Saturday 10am-5pm
- Office Hours: Wednesday 12-1pm
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Video Editing Instructor to teach and mentor a group of motivated young students. This individual will be responsible for delivering the course content, facilitating hands-on learning experiences, and fostering a positive, collaborative classroom environment. The ideal candidate will be a skilled video editor with a strong understanding of both technical and creative aspects of video production, and a desire to work with youth to help them build skills for their future careers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and Deliver Curriculum: Create and teach a structured 11-week course focused on video editing, visual storytelling, and related technical skills. The curriculum should cover topics including Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, storyboarding, video composition, editing techniques, sound design, and color correction.
- Facilitate Hands-on Learning: Guide students through real-world projects that enhance their technical proficiency, creative abilities, and problem-solving skills. Ensure that students gain experience using industry-standard software and equipment.
- Mentorship and Support: Provide personalized feedback to students on their work and offer one-on-one guidance to help them improve their skills. Foster a supportive and encouraging learning environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and perseverance.
- Prepare for Industry Experience: Equip students with the necessary tools to develop a professional portfolio and resume, and provide guidance on how to succeed in the video editing and broader creative industries.
- Collaborate with Industry Partners: Work with NOVAC and industry partners to organize set visits, job shadowing opportunities, and other career-building experiences for students.
- Assess Student Progress: Regularly evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback on technical skills, creativity, and professionalism. Monitor attendance and participation, and track individual progress toward program completion.
- Promote Soft Skills Development: Help students build communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that are essential for success in the workplace.
- Contribute to Program Success: Actively participate in team meetings with NOVAC staff to discuss student progress, challenges, and opportunities for program improvement. Contribute to program evaluation and make recommendations for future improvements.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in video editing, with expertise in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, AVID, and other Adobe Creative Cloud software (Photoshop, After Effects, etc.). Experience in teaching or mentoring youth is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong technical knowledge of video editing software, and video post-production tools.
- Expert in the proxy workflow and file management best practices.
- A deep understanding of creative storytelling, visual composition, and post-production processes.
- Experience creating and delivering educational content in an engaging, accessible manner.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Passion for working with young people and helping them develop both technical and soft skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the film/TV industry post-production and/or freelance video editing work.
- Familiarity with the local creative community and industry partners.
- Experience working with diverse populations and creating inclusive learning environments.
Job Requirements:
- This is a 14 week commitment to prepare and close out curriculum
- Ability to work Saturdays (6 hours) for the duration of the 11-week course, with additional hours for field trips and industry experiences.
- Strong commitment to creating a positive and supportive classroom environment.
- Must pass a background check and be able to work with youth in a professional capacity.
